AlkylFluor is a new type of air-stable and operation-safe fluorinating agent for removing oxygen from alcohols. It belongs to imidazolium salt compounds and is specifically used to convert aliphatic alcohols into alkyl fluorides. Its most notable features are high stability, low risk of explosion, insensitivity to water, and the ability to be operated on a common laboratory bench. It is far superior to traditional DAST and other dangerous fluorinating reagents. The reaction conditions are mild, the functional group compatibility is extremely strong, and it has high fluorination efficiency for primary alcohols, secondary alcohols, and hindered alcohols, with almost no elimination by-products and excellent stereoselectivity. It is often combined with KF and heated in 1,4-dioxane for reaction, and is widely used for the late-stage fluorination modification of drug molecules, natural products, and complex organic molecules. It is currently one of the most practical and safe reagents for alcohol deoxygenation fluorination.
