Anatase-type TiO₂ nanoparticles are a metastable crystalline form of titanium dioxide (TiO₂), belonging to the tetragonal crystal system at the nanoscale (typical particle size 10–100 nm). They feature a high specific surface area (50–150 m²/g), high surface activity, and unique optical/electrical properties. Unlike the rutile form (stable crystal type), anatase is stable below 600°C and easily transforms into rutile at high temperatures. Its crystal structure consists of closely packed layers of oxygen ions with titanium ions in octahedral coordination, and its surface contains numerous unsaturated titanium atoms and oxygen vacancies, giving it strong oxidizing properties, excellent photocatalytic activity, and good UV shielding ability. Its appearance is usually a white fluffy powder (or dispersion), with high chemical stability (acid and alkali resistant), non-toxicity, and environmental friendliness, making it a core nanomaterial in the fields of photocatalysis, environmental protection, coatings, and functional materials.
