Carbon cloth is a nanoscale carbon fiber-reinforced substrate material made from high-purity carbon fibers (such as PAN-based or pitch-based) through orderly weaving. The fiber diameter is typically 5–10 microns (with a nanocrystalline graphite structure on the surface of a single filament). It has a high specific surface area (up to 10–50 m²/g), excellent electrical conductivity (conductivity > 10³ S/m), high thermal conductivity (longitudinal thermal conductivity > 100 W/(m·K)), and good mechanical strength (tensile strength > 2 GPa). The surface can be oxidized (e.g., acid treatment) or chemically grafted to enhance active sites and loading capacity. It is lightweight, high-temperature resistant (stable below 3000°C), and corrosion resistant. It is widely used as a catalyst carrier, electrode material (such as in fuel cells and supercapacitors), sensor substrates, and composite material reinforcements, meeting the demand for conductive, thermally conductive, and high-strength load-bearing functions in energy, electronics, environmental management, and other fields.
