The rationalization of genetic engineering and materials engineering tools has enabled fluorescent natural vibrio (V. natriegens) to produce simple, highly luminescent and stable V. natriegens-silica colored filters, which are used in the first red-emitting bacterial hybrid light-emitting diode. This indicates that V. natriegens, as a high-performance protein production platform, can drive the development of bacterial optoelectronics, especially for bacterial photonic down-conversion filters for lighting. This research was published in the journal Advanced Materials under the title "Integrating Vibrio natriegens for Photon Manipulation in Living Lighting Devices".
